The 4014 Project

The idea for this project originated in September 2004 from the music section on what was then known as the MThreeW website - a community based site in Malmesbury. This has since been re-branded as TheJackdaw.com. Realizing there was potential in this format, The 4014 Project was born. A new name and new designs were created, a separate website was set up, and then The 4014 Project became an official community group so it could compete for funding and grants to help promote musical events and talents in the area.

Twelve months later in September 2005 we organized an Open Mic night to raise money for the Malmesbury Carnival. The unexpected swathes of musicians and spectators told us that more performances were definitely the way forward. Since that night we have tried to hold Open Mic nights every month, touring a number of pubs and venues in different towns and villages. In 2006 we took this idea a stage further and produced a compilation CD of local talent featuring all original pieces. Again, this CD was produced as a charity fundraiser for the Malmesbury Carnival, and is still available via this website.

The 4014 Project exists both to promote and highlight musical talent from the area, but also to plug music gigs, events and festivals in our local area - centralized by the B4014 road. We consider our 'patch' to be the stretch of rural land between Bath, Stroud, Chippenham and Swindon (not including these larger settlements). This website, and the Project itself, wouldn't survive if it wasn't for all the continued support we receive from local musicians and music-lovers from professional recording companies to people who have never played publicly before. Their commitment to 4014 shows just how strong the music scene is in the area and we're proud to be doing all we can to support it. The website has moved on and on over the months and now includes exclusive downloads, a photo gallery, we've broadcast our own radio shows and we're even hiring out our PA system. With all of this in mind, it's worth pointing out that we, as individuals, don't make a penny from 4014. All the money that we collect through our different means is used to buy more equipment for future musical events, or is given to local good causes.
